Oh! Venez, chantons de joie pour le Seigneur
acclamons le Rocher de notre salut,
approchons-nous de lui avec gratitude,
acclamons-le avec joie et louanges!
Car le Seigneur est le grand Dieu,
le grand Roi par dessus tous les dieux;
en sa main sont les profondeurs de la terre,
et les hauts des montagnes sont aussi à lui;
la mer est à lui, car c'est lui qui l'a faite,
la terre ferme, ses mains l'ont façonnée.
Psaume 95,
méditation sur les versets 1-5:
le Créateur,
la création,
les créatures:
joie, effroi merveilleux
ou indifférence?
Des plus hauts sommets des Alpes
aux plages de la Californie du nord,
la création vibre de l'amour de Dieu.
Et pour nous, ses créatures,
la joie vient
quand nous entendons
vibrer ce chant.
Mais avec la joie
vient aussi l'effroi...
"La joie est typique d'un être possédant le libre arbitre,
ce qui lui permet de rire mais aussi de trembler.
Car le libre arbitre n'est pas toujours raison de rire.
Il fait appel à ce qui est le plus effrayant chez l'homme,
la responsabilité, et, qui est, en ce qui concerne Dieu, une affaire d'éternité...
Nous sommes libres de répondre ou bien de ne pas répondre à ce Dieu
qui continue à nous inviter à une union toujours plus profonde avec lui."

Come let us sing to the Lord
and shout with joy to the Rock who saves us.
Let us approach him with praise and thanksgivings
and sing joyful songs to the Lord.
The Lord is God, the mighty God,
the great King over all the gods.
He holds in his hands the depths of the earth
and the highest mountains as well.
He made the sea, it belongs to him,
the dry land too, for it was formed by his hands.
Psalm 95 meditation on verses 1-5, the Creator, the creation, the creatures:
joy, awesome fear or indifference?
From the highest peaks of the Northern Alps to the Pacific Ocean in Northern
California, the creation vibrates with God's love. And for us, his creatures,
joy comes when we hear this vibrating song. But with joy comes an overwhelming
sense of awe...
"Joy is the characteristic of a being endowed with free will,
who can therefore laugh, but also tremble. But free will is no laughing matter.
It connotes the most fearsome factor in man, responsibility, which, with respect
to God, is a matter for eternity... We are free to respond or not to respond
to a God who keeps inviting us for an ever more truthful union with Him."
